Los Angeles is in particular peril

Another year, and another advertisement for the dangers that lie ahead as California gets hotter and drier. The so-called Getty fire has sprung up in west Los Angeles to threaten heavily residential neighborhoods like Brentwood. That blaze joins a number of others already in progress—Kincade, Tick, Sonoma—to provide a vivid illustration of our new normal, just one year after the worst fire season in the state’s history.
