Celebrated by Hindus across the world on this very day

The Ruler of Dubai has tweeted out his warm wishes to all people across the UAE celebrating Diwali today (October 27).

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai wished all residents of the UAE a good Diwali, adding “May the light from the festivities around the world shine a blessing of love and hope on us all.”

Sheikh Mohammed’s wording is very particular, referencing the festival itself. Diwali is the Hindu Festival of Lights and has Hindus around the world light candles, lamps and Diyas in celebration, in more modern times, fireworks are also lit in celebration.

According to the World Population Review, Hinduism makes up around 10% of the population of the United Arab Emirates, making it a widely-celebrated occasion throughout the nation. Establishments throughout Dubai are marking the event with fireworks, areas around Dubai Creek for example will hold spectacular displays.

The Diwali festival is held over five days, with Sunday October 27 being the focal point of celebrations.
