He’s coming back home for Smackdown

Dwayne The Rock Johnson, who rose to fame as one of the WWE’s biggest stars in the 2000s and subsequently left the arena for Hollywood, has announced that he’s coming “back home” to the WWE for the big relaunch of SmackDown.

He hasn’t been a consistent part of the WWE for almost 15 years and now consistently graces the list of the highest paid actors in Hollywood raking in $124million.

He announced the news on Twitter to his 14 million strong fan base.

He will make a special appearance on Friday night, October 4, when Smackdown! Live premieres on Fox in the US.

So what’s in store for fans that night? The anniversary celebration will see WWE Champion Kofi Kingston defend his title against Brock Lesnar; Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair vs. Bayley and Sasha Banks; Roman Reigns vs. Erick Rowan; and Kevin Owens and Shane McMahon in a fight to stay in WWE.

Digital Spy reports that Fast & Furious star Johnson’s return to the ring is a big deal since he recently announced on Live with Kelly & Ryan that he’d hung up his wrestling boots for good.

“I miss wrestling. I love wrestling,” he told the hosts this past summer. “I quietly retired from wrestling because I was lucky enough to have a wonderful career and accomplish what I wanted to accomplish.
