Disney CEO Bob Iger has written about Lucas’ disappointment over the new script

It’s been known since the 2016 reboot of one of the most popular franchises of all time — Star Wars— that one very important person wasn’t a big fan of the new movies. The creator and director George Lucas himself.

Now, Disney CEO Bob Iger has written about Lucas’ disappointment over the new script in his new memoir, ‘The Ride of a Lifetime.’

In the book, Iger talks about a very strained meeting held between him, Lucas right after be sold the franchise to Disney, and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” screenwriters J.J. Abrams and Michael Arndt.

According to the memoir, Lucas felt there was no new storyline in the sequel directed by J.J. Abrams.

“In each of the films in the original trilogy, it was important to [Lucas] to present new worlds, new stories, new characters, and new technologies. In this one, he said, ‘There weren’t enough visual or technical leaps forward,'” Iger said.

At the time of signing away the franchise, Disney were not contractually oligated to follow Lucas’ plans for the next few movies.

“George felt betrayed, and while this whole process would never have been easy for him, we’d gotten off to an unnecessarily rocky start.”

Star Wars: Rise of the Skywalker will be out in theatres later this year. The trailer describes the film as “the story of a generation [that] comes to and end”.
