Rocky Balboa and Ivan Drago is probably one of the greatest on-screen rivalries in cinematic history. This rivalry was reignited in the latest Creed 2 movie which saw Balboa’s protégé and best friend Apollo Creed’s son Adonis take on Ivan Drago’s son Viktor.
Now, Creed II star and writer-producer Sylvester Stallone has stumped fans after he revealed on his Instagram page that there was actually a fight scene between Rocky and Drago that was left out of the final movie.
Stallone was reportedly “upset” at director Steven Caple Jr. who left out the fight between his Rocky Balboa and Ivan Drago, according to co-star Dolph Lundgren.
The scene was set up after Adonis Johnson Creed (Michael B. Jordan) is hospitalised following his first bout against Viktor Drago (Florian Munteanu)
In the 8th installment in the Rocky franchise, the two are older but not quite wiser and the rematch takes place at the hospital when the Dragos show up at the hospital with a film crew.
“So Rocky comes down in the lobby, and we basically [say], ‘We’re going to go up there and talk to him, take some photos.’ [Rocky says], ‘I can’t let you do that.’ So then there’s a kind of shoving match, and I take a swipe at him, and then we end the fight in the lobby,” Lundgren said at FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention in February.
“It was fun. It was interesting, because I hadn’t thrown a punch at Stallone since ’85, because in Expendables, we’re on the same side.”
The fans were left aghast after the revelation with some saying they would have paid to see just that one scene.
@iamrapaport Did you hear about this Rocky vs Drago fight scene that they cut from Creed 2? Can you imagine how many more tickets they could have sold for if they left the scene in and used it for the trailer! https://t.co/cTbQc7NBo3
