He’s 28-0 and a royal welcome ain’t bad

Khabib Numagomedov’s dominance in the UFC coupled with his humility and sportsmanship has made him a fan favourite across the Middle East. The reigning lightweight champ has now received a royal congratulations on his win.

To the surprise of few, Khabib has continued his winning streak in UFC, now having a 28-0 record when he jumped into the Octagon against Dustin Poirier in Abu Dhabi last weekend. Taking place at The Arena on Yas Island, it was Abu Dhabi’s chance to launch itself towards global recognition as a UFC host.

Following the somewhat rocky events post-fight between Khabib and Conor McGregor, which saw Khabib suspended, he’s now a more humble victor.

“I know that Dustin has a lot of charities so I’m going to auction this T Shirt that I’m wearing and send all the money to Dustin for his charities,” he said after winning the fight.

Khabib’s commanding victory and commitment to the sport rather than the money has not gone unnoticed.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, received the reigning UFC lightweight champion Khabib in Abu Dhabi on Monday at Qasr Al Bahr Palace in the capital.

Sheikh Mohamed personally congratulated Khabib on his win and went on to wish him further success in his career.

WAM explains the reception was attended by various UFC officials, Sheikhs, players and dignitaries. Going on to reveal: “[Khabib] Nurmagomedov expressed happiness at meeting Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and applauded his support for various sports.”

Sheikh Mohamed posted a video on his Instagram account showing the meet between himself and the sporting star. The video even shows His Highness holding the infamous wig or Papakha that Khabib proudly dons before and after matches.
