The US Pop Star is suing the retailer for using ‘her style’ to promote its products

Ariana Grande is suing fashion brand Forever 21 for using a look-alike model to promote its products.

Grande wants the retailer to pay her US$10 million for marketing its spin-off cosmetics line Riley Rose, in an online campaign that uses a model that looks similar to her and looks similar to one of her music videos from last year.

The lawsuit claims that Forever 21 was intended to trick consumers into believing Grande had endorsed Forever 21’s products.

“Even a single social media post by Ms Grande can garner fees of several hundred thousand dollars, and her longer-term endorsement arrangements command fees in the millions of dollars,” it said.

Grande has 163 million Instagram followers, making her the most-followed woman on the planet.

Images from Forever 21s Instagram account were used as evidence in the filing and features a model wearing purple camouflage clothing and a pink headband and boots, similar to what the popstar wore in her ‘7 Rings’ music video.

Forever 21 has denied the allegations. “We are hopeful that we will find a mutually agreeable resolution and can continue to work together in the future,” it said in a statement.
