It’s a proud day for Dubai as one of the city’s lesser known places has been named by Time Magazine as one of the World’s Great Places to visit. But how many of us Dubai residents have actually been to the Quranic Park?
Earlier this year, Dubai Municipality opened the Quranic Park to the public free of charge with fees for the ‘Cave of Miracles’, which explains some of the most remarkable events mentioned in the Quran. Visitors can use an RTA Nol card to pay for both.
Among the key features of the park is the Glass House that it is home to 29 different plants and trees that are specifically mentioned in the Quran.
According to Time, the park is the first in the world inspired by the Quran, with gardens each based on stories from Islam’s sacred text, along with a lake split by a stone pathway which symbolises the parting of the Red Sea.
Spots on the magazine’s coveted list also went to the new V&A Museum in Dundee, Scotland, as well as the Newseum in Washington DC, which will close at the end of 2019.
While explaining its methodology, Time said, “To compile our second annual list of the World’s Greatest Places, TIME solicited nominations across a variety of categories—including museums, parks, restaurants, and hotels—from our editors and correspondents around the world as well as industry experts. Then we evaluated each one based on key factors, including quality, originality, sustainability, innovation and influence.”
