Anyone who has had glasses will know that they’re a pain. You can’t see through them when it rains or when it’s dusty out. Which is why most people prefer to wear contact lenses.
But most people with vision problems will know that that that’s a complicated relationship as well. Talk about getting the raw end of the genetics deal. Now scientists have created a new kind of contact lens that can zoom on command.
A paper detailing the team’s findings was published this month in Advanced Functional Materials.
According to Endgadget, the biomimetic lens are made of stretchy polymer films that respond to the electric signals generated by your eyes when they make a movement, such as blinking.
So depending on whether you’re focing on a far or near object the prototype will zoom in or zoom out.
But the new creation is still in its prototype phase so it’ll be a while before we can use them.
