A$AP Rocky, the hit rapper known best for his hit song ‘Everyday’ back in 2015, is currently being held in a Swedish jail, here’s why.
Rocky is a relatively new rapper, debuting in 2011 when his mixtape ‘Live Love, A$AP’ went viral. He makes up part of a Harlem group of MCs, producers, directors and designers called A$AP Mob, though Rocky is the most successful by far. He is known for his experimental approach to music, while still maintain an approachable style.
The rapper’s fame was to have him draw in the crowds and headline the 2019 ‘Wireless Festival’, one of the largest music festivals in the U.K. of which Cardi B, Travis Scott and Lil Uzi Vert were also in attendance of.
The rapper however could not attend this fest as he’s currently held up in a Swedish jail on charges of assault. He was in Stockholm after performing at the ‘Smash’ hip-hop festival.
While wandering the Stockholm streets however, he, and two of his fellow performers, and his guard were hounded by two aggressive teens who would not leave the rapper alone. The teens then proceeded to try and punch the guard, and then went onto try to punch Rocky.
At this point, Rocky and his other members proceeded to tackle the offending teen to the ground and kick him repeatedly.|
It was this that had Rocky detained for firstly aggravated assault, though it has now been reduced to regular assault.
Following his initial arrest, he was detained for an extra two weeks so that the Swedish authorities could decide what action to take.
According to reports, Rocky is dealing with “inhumane jail conditions” and a “disease-ridden facility.” The rapper, worth several million dollars, is sleeping on a yoga mat with no blankets and is apparently sustaining himself with a single apple every day.
The news of his situation, along with the belief that Rocky did not initiate the fight, nor wanted to fight at all, has prompted over 340,000 people to sign a petition to free the man. A petition that has been endorsed by even Post Malone.
It is also reported that he is sleeping next to a mentally-ill inmate whom bashes his head against the wall and spreads disease in the cell.
