Good morning, Charlie

Welcome back Angels! The crime fighting super agents are back in 2019 with an all new cast in the reboot of the 1976 TV show and 2000s movie Charlie’s Angels.

Kristen Stewart, “Aladdin” star Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska star in the new film and play characters – Sabina, Elena and Jane. It’s written, directed and produced by Elizabeth Banks, and detective manager Bosley — is played by Patrick Stewart.

In an interesting departure from previous versions of the movie, Stewart, Banks and Djimon Hounsou will all play Bosley. There are now teams of Angels guided by multiple Bosleys taking on the toughest jobs all over the world. Also starring in the film is Noah Centineo from the Netflix hit ‘All the Boys I’ve loved Before’ and the Hunger Games star Sam Claflin. 

The new reboot will follow the same arc of the previous versions, three women working in a private detective agency run by Charlie Townsend, except this time, they’re going global. The cast was spotted filming in Istanbul, Turkey at the Spice Bazaar and the Veliefendi Hippodrome were completed this week.

Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande and Lana Del Ray have also come together to put together the sound track for the movie. They’ve all hinted at a collaboration on their personal Twitter accounts. 

The 1976 TV series saw Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson, and Jaclyn Smith play the main protagonists and the 2000s then saw Lucy Liu, Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore take up the characters. 

The new movie is set to hit theatres on November 15. It will be interesting to see how this Banks-helmed film will play out on the big screen. The 44-year-old actor turned director has been vocal about this being “not just another sexy female spy movie” and is adamant that she didn’t want to make a movie that was about “their boyfriends that they didn’t see enough”. 

She told Hollywood Reporter: “I went back to the original idea in Charlie’s Angels, which was that women were in the workforce. And all of the things that I feel are happening in the women’s movement right now, whether it be #MeToo, or — I say this in a time of dire straits for women’s rights in this country right now — but I feel like all those things are happening because women are in the workforce in greater numbers than ever in human history. I just wanted to make a movie about women at work, working together. I wanted to make a movie that was not about their boyfriends that they didn’t see enough, or the cats they didn’t feed, or the mother that they didn’t call, because I don’t worry about those things in my daily life. And so, in that way, I felt like we were updating the idea of Charlie’s Angels.”

We’re definitely excited for the film to get a much needed 21st century reboot.
