The latest trailer spells Stranger Things 3 to be the most action packed and intense iteration yet

However, is all this blowy upy stuff and crazy sci-fi really why everyone fell in love with the show?
Stranger Things 3 is coming out on July 4th and ‘EVERYONE’ is excited, Netflix and co. have done an incredible job at giving the upcoming season some of the best marketing in television history with endless collabs, teasers, posters and even a video game. But is Stranger Things getting too big for its boots though? Is it losing that plucky charm that everyone fell in love with?
Think about it for a moment, what made Stranger Things so special? It was a Goonies-esque childhood adventure that played on the idea of childhood imagination and wonder. Couple this with endless 80s nostalgia and you had one of the most endearing and fun premises for a sci-fi show ever devised.
The latest trailer is epic, really epic. It reveals that the Mind Flayer is back, with Will asking “What if he never left? What if we locked him out here with us? He’d want to attach himself to someone again—a new host.”
By the looks of things, it seems the danger is in more places than just Hawkins, as entire military fleets are seen flying over. There also seems to be some massive weapons, lasers and spacey tech. It’s all incredibly high budget and perhaps too intense for its own good.
Stranger Things wasn’t entirely about the awesome sci-fi bits, it was as much about kids playing and growing up in the 80s, it was an adventure inspired by children playing DnD in their mum’s basement. Whilst that charm could still be in the show, it’s not really present in this trailer. This trailer simply shows a blockbuster style alien warfare movie.
The show could still have all the endearing qualities it was famous for, but this trailer seems only focused on the action and pretty colours.
