When you think of Michael Schumacher you automatically associate him with Ferrari and his illustrious, trophy-ladden Formula One career. His son, is now set to follow in his footsteps with his F1 debut in Bahrain this weekend.
Seven-time F1 world champion Michael Schumacher’s son Mick Schumacher will reportedly make his F1 debut with Alfa Romeo Racing in Bahrain at F1’s young drivers’ test.
The 20-year-old is set to take the wheel for Alfa Romeo Racing on April 2-3, 2019. The young Schumacher is an up and coming star having recently won the Formula 3 title in 2018. He’s set to make his debut in Formula 2 this season with the first race in Sakhir on March 29-31.
He recently told the BBC: “Being compared to the best driver in F1 history is the goal you want to achieve and to have that as my idol and father is very special.”
According to AutoWeek UK, the Young Driver Tests allow teams to get mileage in a current F1 car while showcasing up and coming talent. In 2017, current F1 drivers Lando Norris, George Russell and Pierre Gasly all took part in a Young Driver Test in Hungary.
Alfa Romeo’s Formula One car is powered by a Ferrari engine and the team have a partnership with Ferrari, who signed Schumacher as an academy driver in January this year.

Michael Schumacher’s health has been shrouded in secrecy since his skiing accident in December 2013 and has not been seen in public since. The 50-year-old is reportedly confined to a wheelchair and the specific state of his health remains private.
