He spoke about Kashmir, 2G scam, Modi’s hug diplomacy

Comedian Hasan Minhaj has never been one to back down from controversy. Remember when this episode got pulled down? Minhaj this time tackles the Indian elections which in just a few weeks time will see around 900 million people who are eligible to vote in the country’s general elections.

Keeping the controversial topics going throughout the episode he then brings up the Pulwama terror attack, Pakistan accusing India of eco-terrorism, the Congress 2G scam, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s hug diplomacy. He also speaks to Congress party minister Shashi Tharoor and says no BJP representative responded to any of his interview requests.

This is what he said on the show:

On being a Muslim and an NRI

“Look, talking about politics in India can get you in a lot of trouble, especially because I am Indian and Muslim. It is very weird to be something that people love and also be something that people do not like. Right, it’s like if one half of you was Oreo cookie and the other half with Muslim.”

On Prime Minister Narendra Modi

“He gives speeches all the time, but he is the only Indian prime minister to have never held a press conference in his own country. That way, he can never be questioned about his controversies. It’s like posting on Instagram, but disabling comments.”

Here’s what Twitter users think:

33-year-old Minhaj has been the senior correspondent on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show since 2014 and appeared as the featured speaker at the White House correspondents’ dinner in 2017.
