Pope Francis – aka the cool pope – is visiting the UAE next week. And as per usual he’ll be bringing the popemobile along for the ride (he got rid of his custom Lamborghini last year).
Of course, the Pope’s schedule is still shrouded in secrecy. But we do know that he’ll be carting about in the popemobile on February the 5th, in Abu Dhabi’s Zayed Sports City. He won’t take to the streets, mind. He’s just going to be driving around the stadium complex only.
An official quoted by The Khaleej Times confirmed that the pope will greet the thousands of people expected outside the venue. That information was confirmed by St. Mary’s Church in Dubai.
Pope Francis will be leading a special mass inside the stadium, but people outside the stadium will still get a chance to see him drive by.
The Pope is here as part of the UAE’s year of tolerance, and marks the first time a pope has ever visted the country. The state visit begins on February 3rd, and will see Pope Francis meet His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, meet members of the Muslim Council of Elders and hold said holy mass at Zayed Sports City.
It’s a quick visit to be sure, so your best bet at getting a look at Pope Francis is on the 5th. Good luck.
