Promotional videos about watches start and end the same way; show some pretty pictures of said watches, add in some classical music, and slap on a “do you wish to know more, go here” headline. Job done.
But that’s not how Sylvester Stallone makes watch commercials. Not at all.
In what surely must be the first for an industry that dates back centuries, Stallone has ditched the prim and proper approach and channelled his inner Expendable to create, well… what looks like a bad trailer for a video game from the 90’s.
It’s easier if you just watch:
Montegrappa ‘s.Chaos Watch by Sylvester Stallone
There is pretend fire, a glorious voice-over by Rambo himself, a CGI snake appears at one point, and that’s nothing on the friggin’ laser that appears towards the end and explodes each pen (then turns it into a watch).
According to Montegrappa, the video is “a masterful visual experience that conveys the might and power of the Chaos Pen and the recently-introduced Chaos Watch, through a widescreen creation by filmmaker Wendell Marinho da Silva.”
Here are a few of our favourite bits below:
This skeleton has no idea a pen will soon materialize out of its chest cavity
The pen – now wielding a sword – is slowly covered in molten-hot gold from a spewing volcano
Such is the power of these pens, that they literally explode…
…and then rebuild themselves into watches?
About the partnership; the Chaos collection was first announced back in 2012. According to Montegrappa, Stallone plays a large part in the design of each item – which says a lot about why each pen and watch is oversized and gleaming with silver and gold skull motifs. The new 2018 collection is no different, expect chunky pens (this time featuring a snake) along with Chaos watches in silver, gold and black PVD-coated steel.
The sterling silver Chaos watch will be issued in 333 pieces with enamelling and 333 pieces without, for a total of 666 examples. The 18k gold edition will consist of 33 pieces with enamel highlights and 33 pieces without.
