Not even one of the world’s most wealthy individuals can take on a hurricane and survive. Richard Branson – the only man to have founded eight separate billion-dollar companies under the Virgin brand – decided to wait out the hurricane from his home in the Caribbean, Necker Island.
The billionaire took to Instagram earlier today to show the results of the island – Branson reportedly decided to stay on Necker Island safely tucked away in his wine cellar. The video shows the amount of destruction his home took as hurricane Irma battered the small island. It looks like most of the buildings and trees on Necker have been destroyed – or badly damaged.
Richard Branson used his video to call for greater awareness of Hurricane Irma effects on the British Virgin Islands, as well as the tens of thousands of people who have lost their homes. Virgin has set up a community support system. For more information, go here.
