The late Hardy Amies said it best when he declared: “A man should look as if he has bought his clothes with intelligence, put them on with care and then forgotten all about them.” Beyond this guiding principle, the formula for a stylish man is harder to pinpoint. So for 2017’s selection of the Esquire’s Best Dressed Men in the Gulf, we’ve looked at men who wear their clothes with a sense of individuality, confidence and consideration.

Omar Al Busaidy
31, Emirati, Writer
With a background that encompasses banking, tourism, trade and investment, Omar Al Busaidy is currently one of the region’s pioneering authors. Taking advantage of his business acumen and public speaking skills, the aspiring PhD graduate recently penned the self-development book Just Read It, a guide for achieving greater success in your personal and professional life.

Not just an author but a style icon too, he tells us: “Fashion is important to me because it represents my values and my personality.” His favourite fashion brands include Armani Exchange, Tom Ford and Jack Jones and jokes that he has a true dislike for Crocs [though, in the interests of balance, Esquire’s publisher advises “not to knock ’em til you’ve tried ’em”].

Counting Jason Statham as his style icon, Al Busaidy is a lover of suits, tailoring and luxury footwear. However, given the chance, he says he would wear shorts for the rest of his life.

As a dresser who takes into account the heat and weather of the region, he nevertheless declares that the best style advice he ever received was simply this: “dress to impress” — a sentiment we are happy to get behind.
