In most circumstances hitting the ripe ol’ age of 70 means finally being able to put your feet up to enjoy, check in to the slower pace of life – not very rock ‘n’ roll.
We’ve chosen those worlds specifically because according to the newly released The Sunday Times’ Rich List it turns out geriatric musicians are carrying on well into their 70s’ rocking the stage and making more cash than the chain snatching, diamond crusted gold bracelet wearing young guns.
The annual 160-page special edition report from the British newspaper is out today and we’ve sifted though the property tycoons, and supermarket-owning families adding billions more to their already ridiculously large fortune, to reveal the richest musicians in the UK.

Sir Paul McCartney
It will comes as little surprise that atop the list sits Sir Paul McCartney with a worth of Dhs3.666 billion. The former Beatle doesn’t just live off royalties from ‘Yesterday’ but still performs – like the three concerts he did in Japan last month. His wife also contributes to the family purse, Nancy Shevell, 56, has a Dhs705 million bank account thanks to her father’s New England Motor Freight trucking company.
Sir Andrew Lloyd-Webber
Second richest of the music royalty is Sir Andrew Lloyd-Webber, with a fortune of Dhs3.480 billion, the writer of musical theatre and occasionally player of the piano is the name behind ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ and many other worldwide favourites. He’s been in the business for half a century, Webber is without a doubt one the leading legends of the stage.

The Irish sensations U2, come in at third place, just as famous for trying to heal the world as they are for their music. Having sold more than 170 million records worldwide and a modest 22 Grammy awards, the chaps form Dublin are worth Dhs2.575 billion collectively.
Sir Elton John
The list would not be complete without the extravagant and colourful Sir Elton John, famous for his temper, his eye-catching outfits and even more extravagant Oscar after partiers. With a fortune of mere Dhs1.365 billion and a Dubai convert date set for December 8th, provided he dosnt cancel it again, the 70 year old continues to play live gigs across the globe.

The Rolling Stones the lead singer and one of the founder members at 73, Sir Mick Jagger continues to be described as “one of the most popular and influential frontmen in the history of rock & roll’. Completing his 55 years in the music business Jagger has amssed a fortune of Dhs1.180 billion.

The most successful under 30 is the girl next door from Tottenham (in north London).
