There are times in our life when we feel like splurging on something nice. A car; a holiday; a watch; after all, we work damn hard for our money, so we deserve to enjoy the fruits of our labours. But even we might think twice about dropping a cool Dhs210,000 on a pillow. Even if it is the world’s most expensive pillow.
Unveiling the Tailor Made Pillow at the Middle East interiors exhibition, Index, the creator (and former physical therapist) spent 15 years developing a gold-entrusted pillow, that he is convinced will solve all your sleeping woes.
We can actually hear you scoffing at the idea of dropping life-changing money on a gold pillow, but there is method to the madness.
Along with his personal experience, neck specialist Thijs van der Hilst used 3D scanners, printers and a complex mathematical algorithm to create the size and shape of a pillow that would be made from a combination of hand-stitched Egyptian cotton and a splash of 24 carat gold. The pillow would then be bespokely moulded out of non-toxic Dutch memory foam to the sleeper’s head, neck and shoulders.
That golden fabric makes up both sides of the sleep-aid, while its zipper comes studded with no less than four diamonds and a huge 22.5ct sapphire.
Part of the process sees Mr. van der Hilst finding out exactly how each client lays at night – on their side, back or stomach – before the complex mathematics are done and the results sent off to his Holland-based team.
And just incase you are away on a business trip you can bring the pillow with you in the custom-made Louis Vuitton case.
