The re-make of classic children’s horror story The Witches by Roald Dahl will land on HBO Max in time for Halloween, on October 22.
The film stars Anne Hathaway as the titular witch, along with Octavia Spencer and Stanley Tucci. The film follows a boy who finds himself pursued by a coven of witches. He – along with his grandmother – must then attempt to foil a plan by the witches to turn the world’s population into mice.
Yes, it all sound rather tame but as a generation of children who watched the last The Witches movie (starring Anjelica Huston) it’s all pretty terrifying.
Robert Zemeckis directs the film, and the new iteration of the witches also had help from Alfonso Cuaron, Guillermo del Toro and Kenya Barris.
The new version of The Witches looks as visually appealing as the old one, and considering the stellar cast we can’t imagine this movie not going on to terrify an entirely new generation of children when it lands on HBO Max.
The movie is just one of several that have gone straight-to-streaming this year.
In other news, Dwayne Johnson has revealed who will play him in ‘Young Rock’, the autobiographical sitcom coming to NBC next year.
Three different actors will play him over the years, ranging from ten to twenty years-old. Adam Groulx will play him at the age of ten, Bradley Constant will be 15-year-old Johnson while Uli Latukefu will be The Rock from 18-20 years.
As for the family, Ana Tuisila will be Johnson’s grandmother, Stacey Leilua will be his mother and Joseph Lee Anderson will play his dad.
