Stone and Gosling you’ve seen. But in a musical? We think not

Ah, the musical. There’s not nothing quite like dressing up for a night of toe-tapping to an uplifting broadway showtune – unless it’s Les Miserables that is. While Dubai’s theatre/musical scene is going through somewhat of a renaissance the shows on offer are primarily limited to classics: West Side Story/My Fair Lady to name but a few. But with Damien Chazelle’s new film La La Land hitting cinemas next week you don’t have to go all the way to the Dubai Opera to enjoy a night’s worth of sing-along goodness.

The Oscar-tipped film from the director of Whiplash who clearly has an affinity for music, tells the love story between jazz pianist Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) and aspiring actress Mia (Emma Stone) who are drawn to each other after they both hit a wall in their professional life. But just as we get a glimpse of the light at the end of the tunnel, the couple have to decide which they value more success or love?

It isn’t the first time the duo appear in romantic comedy and with their remarkable on-screen chemistry it certainly won’t be the last.

And seeing as we’re in a festive mood, Esquire Middle East is giving away 10 pairs of tickets to you charming bunch of readers to watch the film on its Dubai premiere on Monday December 26, 8pm at Novo Cinemas, Dubai Festival City.
