-The Influencers - DJ Bliss
Born and raised in Dubai, Marwan Parhan Al Awadhi’s love and passion for music has fuelled a trail-blazing career that spans across radio, TV, events, and producing for other musical talents. The tech-savvy DJ is the quintessential example of a social media early-adopter, and continues to used various platforms to push himself creatively.
How important is social media to you?
I’ve always loved technology and was early adopter on all the major social media platforms: Myspace, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. In my line of work, as each platform evolves, you have to treat them as serious professional tools. I say that to a lot of musicians I work with, you can be great at what you do, but if you don’t have the tools to promote yourself the world may never hear your talent.
Do you consider yourself an influencer?
I’m not a fan of the term ‘influencer’ because of what it has come to represent. I always warn artists about what would happen if they pulled the plug on social media tomorrow, all you would be left with is your talent — so focus on that. If social media was to disappear I would still be able to deejay and perform and even go back into more conventional media like radio and TV. Life is not about likes, eventually, people will
want to see real talent.
What influences you?
Because I’ve had a career in TV, radio and music, I am influenced by so many different people and places. As long as there is a positive vibe, I’ll take it in.
