ZEGNA’s latest fragrance collection, MEMORIE, is not about formulas, but about memory, movement, and emotion. Inspired by the life of the house’s founder, Ermenegildo Zegna, the six new scents unfold like a journey: from the hum of a garage at dawn, through winding mountain roads and rain-soaked forests, to intimate family moments at the end of the day.

To translate this life into scent, ZEGNA invited three master perfumers: Quentin Bisch, Fabrice Pellegrin, and Dominique Ropion, and offered them an unusually open brief. The goal was not to design fragrances for a specific archetype, but to allow emotion and individuality to guide the creative process. The result is a new six-part olfactory collection in which memory is something active, shaped by place, gesture, and intention.

The word memorie comes from Italian, meaning memories not as something stored away, but as moments that continue to exist through action. That philosophy traces directly back to 1910, when ZEGNA’s founder began his journey in the Italian Alps. His world was defined by daily rituals, meaningful objects, and an enduring relationship with nature. These values passed down through generations and now expressed through fragrance.

Rather than presenting six standalone scents, MEMORIE unfolds as a single narrative revealed in sequence, following the rhythm of a life in motion. From the quiet of early thought to the openness of landscape, from creation to reflection, each fragrance captures a chapter rooted in a specific place or object.

“There was no marketing brief,” Bisch explains. “It was just emotional. I was simply told that these were beautiful ingredients and that I was free to interpret.” For him, the success of a fragrance lies in its ability to provoke something personal. “My goal is to create a perfume that triggers emotion. I don’t foresee a specific person. This perfume can become the perfume of anybody; the moment it brings them something good.”

Pellegrin approached the project by immersing himself in the family’s world. “Translating emotion into fragrance is difficult, because emotion is personal,” he says. “I put myself into ZEGNA’s family to feel those emotions again, and then retranslate them.” The process, he notes, mirrors tailoring itself. Every detail matters, and a single choice can change everything while still preserving elegance, quality, and personality.

For Ropion, memory is inseparable from scent and deeply tied to instinct. “Smell is linked to memory in a very profound way,” he says. “Sometimes you recognize something not because you know it, but because it connects to something already inside you.” Each perfumer was given the same universe, yet each arrived at a distinct result, reinforcing the idea that identity, not uniformity, defines true craftsmanship.

Nature plays a central role throughout the ZEGNA MEMORIE collection. Crisp mountain air, rain-soaked forest floors, mineral accents, and precious woods evoke the Italian Alps and the roads that carve through them. One recurring image is that of a car in motion, a symbol of freedom, elegance, and momentum: a man driving through winding mountain roads, windows down, fresh air rushing in, clarity and energy born from movement itself. As the journey progresses, the fragrances shift from freshness toward warmth, echoing moments of rest, family, coffee, and quiet conversation at day’s end.

This narrative continues on screen in a new cinematic film starring Mads Mikkelsen, written and directed by Roman Coppola. Set within Casa Zegna, the family’s historic home in Oasi Zegna, the film unfolds as a contemplative journey through six interconnected worlds. Guided by a miniature car, a poetic symbol of imagination and continuity, Coppola allows memory to surface through silence, rhythm, and space rather than explanation.

The physical expression of MEMORIE reflects the same philosophy. Each fragrance is housed in a refined glass bottle with soft gradient finishes inspired by its emotional landscape, sealed with an ash-wood cap crowned by the Zegna family crest. Designed to be refillable, the bottles reinforce the belief that luxury should endure, revisited and passed on rather than consumed and replaced.

With MEMORIE, ZEGNA captures that belief in scent, offering moments suspended between nature and industry, intimacy and ambition, thought and action.
