It’s getting to the point where we can’t really work out which claims Elon Musk makes on his X platform are true, and which are just the general frat boy banter we’ve come to expect. However, over the weekend, the Tesla CEO wrote: “If you were unfairly treated by your employee due to posting or liking something on this platform, we will fund your legal bill. No limit. Please let us know.”
At time of writing, the post has had 106 million views, 125k reposts and, for the moment at least, Musk appears to be taking it seriously, engaging with people who rushed to explain how they lost their jobs due to various tweets and even simply from liking other accounts.
Musk had previously followed his initial post with a comment stating, “And we won’t just sue, it will be extremely loud and we will go after the boards of directors of the companies too.”
Amid rumours of falling revenue at the platform, Musk has been doing all he can to utterly destroy much of what went before him with a real scorched earth policy. From charging subscription fees for the famed blue tick, to binning its entire branding, changing the name to X and killing off the bird. I mean, the only other thing the guy could have done is blow up the building.
While the idea of funding people’s legal costs for unfair dismissal via their Twitter actions does match Musk’s claims of wanting the platform to be a bastion for free speech, and it could be a very nice, genuine action. That said, let’s see if any of this actually pays off before we label him the new messiah.
In another example of the erratic behaviour we all know and love, Musk has appeared to also reignite the idea of fighting Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg in some sort of cage fight death match. At this point heck, who knows what he’ll do next? Just don’t be surprised to see this fight staged live on the deck of the Titanic, which he’ll personally dredge to the surface just for the occasion.
