Time travel and flashbacks have often been weaved into video game narratives to add an intricate spin to storytelling but deathloops are the next big thing and no. It has nothing to do with having to press restart when you keep dying against that final boss.
From Dishonored’s noir, steam punk style set in the late 1800s, to Prey’s more sci-fi alien, alternate timeline theme, it’s clear that Arkane Studios love playing with the concept of time which is exactly what their newest title Deathloop is about. Also, death.
Watch the official gameplay walkthrough below:
Set on the mysterious island of Blackreef, players will take control of Colt, a man who wakes up and soon realizes that he’s stuck in a time loop. He has one day to eliminate eight targets called “visionaries” who are responsible for keeping the loop functioning and if he fails to kill one of them, the loop resets. If that’s not enough, then every time he dies, he also wakes up to find that he’s gone back to the beginning of the very same day. The targets are scattered across the entire Island but you have a huge arsenal of weapons and supernatural abilities at your disposal to get the job done.
There are four different districts that players can explore and players will need to study their targets daily routines, where they are at certain times of the day and come up with a plan of attack. Main missions and side missions can be completed at your own pace. Don’t feel bad about constantly dying because each day is another opportunity to tackle the visionaries from a different angle.

Death truly isn’t the end.
Deathloop will be available on September 14 exclusively on PlayStation 5 and PC in the Middle East.
