Eid Al Fitr is a time for family, and if you’re staying home and playing some games with your little cousins this socially-distanced Eid, here’s the games you’ll need to practice a bit before those 11 year olds kick your behind.
1. Fortnite

(PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS, Microsoft Windows)
Arguably the most popular video game right now, certainly in the battle royale scene, the cross-platform third person shooter combines its gunplay with a building on-the-fly mechanic. This means that while you’re shooting 1 out of 100 players in match, you can build walls, stairs and other structures to aid your attack or retreat plan if it’s a losing battle.
Fortnite continues to add new content in the form of character skins and various cosmetics. Keeping it a fresh and fun experience no matter which of its seasons you decide to start playing. You’ll see Batman doing a beatboxing emote while John Wick fires a rocket at him from a distance.
With the current Season 6 Primal featuring skins such as Lara Croft, Rebirth Raven with rumours of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga to soon be available it’s safe to say that Epic Games aren’t running out of ideas anytime soon.
If you’re bad at it, your little cousin will surely find tips.
Will your little cousin beat you: Yes, badly
2. Super Smash Bros Ultimate

(Nintendo Switch)
If you’re looking for a great fighting game that you can just plug in and play with your family on this couch this Eid then Super Smash Bros is for you. Players can pick from a wide range of characters from Nintendo and other franchises and beat each other up using a wide range of attacks from that characters arsenal on in some very diverse arenas. Yes that means Pikachu can go toe-to-toe with Mario, Link and Solid Snake if you want.
You may have played past versions on Gamecube or N64, so this might actually be the game that you can teach the little cousins a thing or two on.
Will your little cousin beat you: No, you’ve got this
3. Outriders

(PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Microsoft Windows, Stadia)
If you liked Borderlands then you’ll love the latest installment from Square Enix and People Can Fly. This co-operative RPG third person shooter lets you choose from 4 different characters, The Devastator, Pyromancer, Technomancer and Trickster. Each come with their own unique abilities. The Devastator can unless seismic attacks such as earthquakes, the Pyromancer manipulates fire while the Technomancer and Trickster are for those who like more strategy based characters. The Technomancer uses devices such as turrets whereas the Trickster can manipulate time itself. There’s plenty of different guns to loot and character customization.
Will your little cousin beat you: 50/50
4. Rocket League

(PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux)
Vehicular soccer just sounds fun by itself. Rocket League is easy to get into with simple controls and the goal, no pun intended is to work in a team of 4 players and use your cars to hit the ball into the opposing team’s goal and score points. Maybe the best goalie should be a limousine, and you’d actually have a chance to beat the cousins at this.
Will your little cousin beat you: Yep, but you might not mind
5. Super Mario Party

(Nintendo Switch)
This one might even be good for mom, dad, and that aunts and uncles. This is the game to play with gamers and non-gamers as it is very much like playing a Mario themed board game on your TV screen. Each player picks a character and then rolls a dice to decide which order they play in this turn based game. Every turn a player rolls their dice and advances 1-6 spaces crossing board titles each with their own positive or negative effect in order to collect the most stars. At the end of every turn, all 4 players will complete in a 2v2, 3v1, or all versus all game to earn coins that they can spend to purchase power ups and other fun items to help them win.
Will you be playing any of these over the break? We will. Will we win? It depends on if the little dudes let us.
Will your little cousin beat you: Actually, Grandma might actually win for once
