The electric vehicle has decent speed and range; but we’re not convinced it’s up to SZR standards

Electric vehicles are all the rage, which is why everyone from Tesla to Apple is trying to get in on the game.

Earlier today Amazon unveiled its dinky little self-driving robot-taxi, dubbed the Zoox. And we can’t imagine it will fare well on the busy streets of Abu Dhabi or Dubai.

The autonomous vehicle doesn’t come with a steering wheel or a brake pedal, as Amazon deems them unnecessary when there is no driver.

The vehicle seats up to four passengers, and comes with sliding doors on each side. It’s a little bit like a small Metro compartment, with four wheels.

While it looks small it does pack a whopper of a battery, nearly double that of regular electric vehicles like the Tesla Model 3. That gives it enough road time for 16-hours on a single charge at speeds up to 140kph.

The robo-taxi is designed to be as compact as possible, to better squeeze through tight urban spaces. And guests inside can keen track of their journey via small screens or their smartphone.

According to Amazon, the Zoox has a 270-degree field of vision thanks to multiple cameras, along with radar and LIDAR sensors.

Amazon has described the Zoox as a vehicle “for riders, not drivers”.
