Rumours abound that starting next year, Samsung will be ditching its Galaxy Note range of smartphones in favour of the newly launched Fold.
According to speculation from analysts, the Fold 3 will come with a bigger foldable screen and the S-Pen stylus (which would effectively render the regular Note redundant).
The move makes sense from a technical perspective. So far this year the Korean smartphone has released its S20 range as well as the Note 20 range, which – especially on the higher-end of the S20 range – starts to look mighty similar as far as devices go.
The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, for example, rocks a 6.9-inch screen, an Exynos 990 processor and connects to 5G networks. Alternatively, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra comes with a 6.9-inch screen, an Exynos 990 processor and will connect to 5G networks.
There’s not a huge amount of difference between the two (if at all).
Traditionally, the reason why you’d pick up a Galaxy Note over a regular S20 is that S-Pen. But with news that Samsung might drop the Note line in favour of its Fold line, the future of stylus-touting regular-sized smartphones might be in jeopardy.
Now, we have nothing against the Fold line (indeed, we like it very much). However, with the Galaxy Fold 2 costing AED7,600 that will probably price-out future S-Pen users.
Fortunately, as of right now this is all speculation (so there’s still hope).
