The phone will slide open to reveal a second screen in crisscross formation

Smartphone design is pretty basic at the moment; take a rectangular block of technology and cover one side with glass screen and the other with metal/plastic/more glass. Easy.

But LG is bored of the classic smartphone slab, and is now teasing a phone that has a rather baffling design. The ‘Wing’ is a dual-screen handset that swivels into a cross formation.

The general idea is that it gives smartphone users more screen real estate. You can check out the teaser trailer here:

It’s an interesting take on the dual-screen phone, for sure. Most other smartphone-makers have gone with the flappable or foldable design ethos – such as Samsung’s new Galaxy Fold 2 5G – but LG appears to favour the Wing.

We are not sure exactly how having a second vertical screen might come in handy when you are out and about, but we bet LG has a few ideas.

We won’t have to wait long for a full revieal. The LG Wing is due to be officially unveiled on the 14th of September.
