New phone will go head-to-head against Samsung’s S20 series

Oppo has a brand new bag, err, smartphone.

The new Find X2 looks to go toe-to-toe with Samsung’s just-launched S20-series, right down to its 5G connection and ultra-high refresh rate screen.

Available in two separate models, the Finx X2 and the Finx X2 Pro both rock AMOLED screens that pump out a 120Hz refresh rate.

Why does anyone care about refresh rates?

Effectively, a higher screen refresh rates makes for a far better screen. Swiping and scrolling around apps will not just look better, but feel more responsive. It also benefits colours (they pop more) as well as things like watching movies and TV.

So refresh rates will be a big selling point this year, so it’s good to see that Oppo has jumped aboard to so early in the year.

The Find X2 Pro model features upgraded cameras. The orange model comes wrapped in vegan-friendly leather.

Elsewhere you get a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor, 256GB of storage, and an in-screen fingerprint reader.

Around the back, you get a 48-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel wide cam, and a 13-megapixel telephoto cam. The Pro model does one better, upgrading the wide angle camera to 48-megapixels, and giving the telephoto 10x hybrid zoom.

Both models also pack Oppo’s lightning fast Super VOOC charging, which will juice the phone from empty to full in something as silly as 15-minutes.

Oh, and one version of the Pro model also comes wrapped in ‘Vegan Leather’. So finally, there’s a smartphone for the vegetarians in the world.

Both models are out later this month: the standard model is due to cost around AED3,500 while the Pro model is expected to cost north of AED4,500.
