An unusual beta release has the answers

The trend with Apple is that they release a new phone, and then a few days later, release a new operating system update. In a surprise move however, Apple has already released a beta for iOS 13.1.

The new iPhones are expected to be unveiled next month in September and with it will be a new operating system. Currently the most up to date iPhone users will have the 12th operating system update. Apple has already though pulled back the curtain on the next update’s beta.

The upcoming features of Apple’s iOS 13 are already public knowledge, with Apple itself revealing what to look forward to.  The 13.1 beta shows features seemingly missing from 13 being re-added.

The features of 13.1 beta 1 include the following:

  • Share ETA in Maps (returned)

  • Shortcuts Automation tab (returned). With Automations, you can create personal and home automations from the Shortcuts app to have certain actions performed when specific conditions occur.

  • Volume HUD now shows the icon for the connected device, including HomePod, Beats, and AirPods (new)

  • Colours for dynamic wallpapers (new)

  • MacOS-style HomeKit icons (new)

  • Glyph for game controllers in the Batteries widget (new)

  • There are various other minor tweaks to features such as AirDrop, video encoding and a handful of small visual changes.
