New Snapchat Spectacles have built-in 3D capabilities

Having previously launched two older versions, Snapchat has unveiled another pair: Spectacles 3.

The third generation improves on the last, with new designs (this time in metal) and software improvements designed to capture video in 3D. Users can edit content (mainly augmented reality-based at this point) right from the glasses, including adding “new lighting, landscapes and other magical effects”.

The glasses also get a new 3D viewer feature that lets you re-live experiences that someone else had from their point of view.

The previous two pairs of Snapchat Spectacles – while pretty decent – didn’t go down that well with the wider public. That’s despite the fact that users can now download videos out of the Snapchat app, to post on other forms of social media.

However, Snapchat is hoping its next pair – with that punchy new design – will change that.

The spectacles will begin shipping in September and will cost US$380.
