Snapchat’s crack at wearable technology is getting a third iteration, the Spectacles 3. And they’re coming to the UAE.
Snapchat’s creator company Snap, Inc. has been quietly working on its next generation of Spectacles. That’s despite them not having huge global appeal (the Spectacles 3 trailer only has 4,200 views at the time of writing).
Regardless of that, the first and second pairs of spectacles packed some impressive technology. And have garnered a cult-like status for social media influencers and Snapchat users.
The Spectacles 3 are an improvement in more ways than one, with a new design, dual HD cameras, augmented reality capabilities and 3D-capability.
As the name would have you believe, these are the third rendition of the Snapchat-focused glasses. These specs have some quite impressive specs, with an additional HD camera from the previous Spectacles 2, these have the greatest photo and video abilities of all.
The additional HD camera allows to film and shoot with a greater level of detail and depth, allowing for the 3D snaps. The 3D snaps can be edited with augmented reality features within the Snapchat app itself.
Unlike previous Spectacles which were made of plastic, the Spectacles 3 are more high-end, using stainless steel frames, this is both for luxury sake and to have a more study frame to house the beefier cameras.
The Spectacles boast 4 GB of storage meaning you can store up to 100 videos or 1,200 images at a time. Shot in 60 fps, videos are stored at 1,216 x 1216 pixels while photos come with a resolution of 1,642 x 1642.
Operating the Spectacles 3 is like the previous versions. You have to tap either button for video (up to 60 seconds continuously) or press and hold for a still image.
Forcing you to fire up Snapchat and presumably turn on your location services, these images and videos can be edited within the app.
Much like previous versions, these Spectacles can be charged by placing them in the charging case, which doubles as a glasses case, this time round in high-grade grain leather. Snap claims this case can hold four charges.
Coming in either a black colour or a rosy gold colour, the specs retail for AED 1,500. This makes them the most expensive version yet, though they’re also the most premium.
