Asus has finally unveiled its Republic of Gamers (ROG) Phone 2.
It looks like Asus is taking mobile gaming seriously, filling the ROG Phone 2 to the brim with top-notch specs designed for gaming-on-the-go.
Let’s start with the screen, a 6.59-inch AMOLED display and a 120Hz refresh rate (a world’s first). You also get a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus – an overclocked version of the regular 855 – for better CPU and GPU performance.
Of course, more performance equals more heat. Which is why the ROG Phone 2 features a 3D vapr chamber cooling system, that comes with an external cooler in the box.
All that power makes the phone rather hungry for power. Thankfully, the phone boasts a 6,000mAh battery (almost double that of a regular iPhone).
There’s plenty more smartphone fun to be had, including 12GB of RAM, 512GB of UFS 3.0 storage, a 48-megapixel camera plus a 13-megapixel wide-angle camera, air triggers (that act as shoulder buttons) as well as four Wi-Fi antennas to reduce lag.
Asus has tried to keep quiet about costs, however we’re hearing it will be around the US$1,000 mark. That’s of course before you buy any of the optional accessories.

Just one year after rolling out its first smartphone ‘designed for gamers’, Asus’ Republic of Gamers (it’s gaming-centric division) has said a successor will be revealed next week (July 23).
The new blower will be the first smartphone to have Qualcomm’s speedy new Snapdragon 855 plus processor under the hood.
The Taiwanese firm wants to take the lead in the mobile gaming space, producing phones capable of playing console-quality games. It’s doing so with help from Qualcomm; this new processor is expected to be 4 per cent faster than the previous version (which was already pretty quick).
The Asus ROG Phone II is also expected to have a high refresh rate of around 120-HZ. While those specs are currently available in the Razer Phone 2, it’s more commonly seen on high-end gaming monitors over smartphones.

More and more smartphone makers are getting into the gaming market, including Xiaomi who revealed its Black Shark 2 earlier in the year. The idea is to attract some of the most demanding gamers, and transform smartphones into truly portable gaming consoles.
According to leaked sources, the ROG Phone II will have an all-screen design (with no notch) and come in 5G variants for certain markets. The phone is also rumoured to boast stereo speakers for arguably better audio while gaming.
