Apple is gearing up for its annual September event, where the technology company traditionally unveils new iPhones. But it’s also rumoured to be pulling the wraps off the third generation of wireless AirPods, and this time they’ll be wireless.
According to Apple insiders, the next generation of AirPods – slated for release by the end of 2019 – will be water resistant.
There will be two new models of AirPods, and both will be water and dust resistant. The rumour mill also says that the second model will feature an all-new design.
Taiwanese site DigiTimes has also said that the next-generation of Apple’s wireless buds would have active noise-reduction technology built-in, but offer the same battery life as Apple’s traditional buds.
The current generation of AirPods arrived in March 2019. The new earphones offered better battery life over the previous models, Siri compatibility and wireless charging.
Thanks to optical detectors and accelerometers built-in, they also know when they are being worn, and automatically go into sleep mode as soon as they are taken out.
The second generation of AirPods are currently sold for AED829, or without the wireless case for AED679.
