Canon is preparing to launch a new wireless camera exclusively on crowdsourcing website Indiegogo.
The new camera seems to want to take the fight to GoPro and the recently launched DJI Osmo Action. The new camera – dubbed Ivy Rec – will be both wireless and shock resistant, and come in miniature form.
For right now, Canon has only said that it will be a wireless (via Bluetooth) camera along with a 13-megapixel CMOS sensor, and capture full HD 1080p footage at 60-frames-per-second.
The Ivy Rec is positively tiny, able to clip on to clothing, a backpack or even – Canon tells us – a cat or dog’s collar.
The entire idea behind the Ivy Rec is that it will keep your smartphone out of harm’s way (making this the perfect addition in a part-time vlogger’s arsenal. Users will be able to download the CanonMini Cam App, which will enable live viewing on smartphones, and also let you share footage to other apps on your smartphone.
For the moment, the Ivy Rec doesn’t have a project launch date or a new price.
Canon’s decision to launch a new action cam has not gone without speculation on the internet. Tech insiders have pointed out that Ivy Rec doesn’t offer anything over the current crop of Action Cameras from DJI and GoPro.
