Motorola just landed itself in hot water. Its new phone the P30 looks more than a little bit like Apple’s iPhone X model released last year.
Let’s be honest here. It’s not the first time that a big technology company has aped one of Apple’s designs, and it’s definitely not going to be the last time. But the tech world has labelled Motorola’s new P30 phone as one of the most shameless rip-offs of Apple’s design philosophy.
The P30 was launched on the company’s Chinese website a few days ago, with new units expected to go on sale around the world on September the 15th. Fans spotted a number of similarities between the blowers, including the notch at the top of the bezel-free display, as well as the vertically-mounted camera confirmation. The P30 also has the same rounded edges as the iPhone X.
Journalists and bloggers have denounced Motorola, with most saying that if there wasn’t a branded stamp on the back it would be virtually impossible to tell the two devices apart.
Popular YouTube vlogger Marques Brownlee called the P30 ‘the most shameless rip yet’ which tech news site CNet said the smartphone’s resemblance to the iPhone X is ‘uncanny’.
While it may look the same as Apple’s flagship, it’s going to cost an awful lot less. When it goes on sale the P30 is expected to cost around 350 US dollars – around a third of the price of Apple’s pricey iPhone X.
