Whether you want to order your lunch, a taxi, or even take a few selfies with your dead friends (no, really) we’re pretty sure there’s an app for just about everything now. UAE residents departing from Dubai International Airport can now even use their smartphones to get through the e-gates at Terminal 3. All through the means of an official app known as ‘UAEWallet’.
By downloading UAEWallet all your personal data, e-gate card, Emirates ID, and passport information will be stored onto this single app on your smartphone – ensuring you never have to go through that airport panic of patting down your entire person to find out where you’ve expertly hidden your passport. The UAEWallet intends to do away with any paper hassle and should hopefully mean you get through the security system as quick as possible.
It also sounds painfully simple as, aside from providing your fingerprint along the way for identity purposes, all you have to do is scan a barcode generated by the app as you pass through the airport. However, anyone who has ever experienced the joys of e-gate before will be aware that this system rarely ever works as efficiently as it should. And with the app currently holding a less than impressive rating on the iTunes store, it appears that the UAEWallet is unfortunately upholding this standard of inconsistency.
On top of the app currently being in its teething stages, the rest of the world is also yet to get onboard with this scheme. Which means you’ll still need passport with you to actually enter another countries once you arrive…for now.
