It’s finally official, tech goliath Google has offically announced the launch of a new duo of smartphones, the Pixel and the Pixel XL.
Having done away with the previous line of Nexus phones (that Google produced for six years to tepid success) the new Pixel smartphone is expected to have 32GB of storage, 4GB of memory and a 12 megapixel camera. Both models will run on Android’s newest operating system, Nougat, making the only difference between the Pixel and the Pixel XL, yes, you guessed it, the XL will be slightly larger.
A 5 inch 1080p HD screen for the Pixel and a 5.5 inch (optional 2K) screen for the XL. Lastly, what would a smartphone be these days without a fingerprint scanner? Both models will have those built in for access security.
Other big news from Google HQ is that the company is gearing up to launch its new smart-home hub, Google Home. Like Amazon’s Echo, the system allows operates via voice recognition and allows users to ask about the weather, meetings, play music and all of the other day to day questions that you find yourself pondering on. The system can also be connect to other devices, so you can stream content through the box, from your iOS or Android apps.
There was also more light shed on the release of Google’s Chromecast Ultra – an adaptation of the original Chromecast. For those of you now looking blankly at the screen (or doing a quick explanatory Google search), Chromecase is a streaming device that will allow 4K quality and potentially HDR, from mobile devices to TV screens.
For Ultra, the interface/navigation will be done through the smartphone devices connected to keep it simple and what people are comfortable with. The device is rumoured to be priced at $69 in the US, so compared to Apple TV is means that having some sweet 4K tele will be even more accessible and, dare we say it, inexpensive.
