Studio headphones are the most precise and accurate sounding cans you can find on the market (oft used by audio professionals, musicians, and those who want the crispest, clearest sound).
Neumann knows a thing or two about that; founded back in 1928 the company has focused on producing professional-grade microphones for radio and studio recording, as well as headphones to boot.
2019 saw the company release the NDH 20, which when down a storm. So it should come as no surprise that Neumann has returned with a new pair of NDH 30s.
Can it live up to the success of its predecessor?
Neumann NDH 30: Design

The Neumann NDH 30 features an almost identical design to the NDH 20, except for the open-back ear cups. The sleek silver finish, orange accents, and Neumann logo give the headphones a vibrant, polished feel that adds style and class.
Furthermore, the foldable design allows you to easily take them on the go. The only thing to take note of is that the headphone jack is positioned on the right earcup, rather than the left.
Neumann NDH 30: Comfort

The NDH 30 offers some notable changes when compared to its closed-back counterpart.
These changes, such as the ear cup padding, the headband design, and the clamping force, add to an already comfortable experience. The ear padding is soft and plush and the headband design has a dip in the middle which prevents uncomfortable pressure points.
Neumann NDH 30: Sound
The Neumann NDH 30 is a top-of-the-line set of headphones designed for studio work.
Their sound profile is incredibly neutral, with a frequency range of 12Hz – 34kHz and no hint of coloration. The lows offer plenty of punch with no boominess and the open-back design helps prevent low-end build-up.

The midrange is slightly forward and provides a pure and accurate sound, while the top end provides sparkle without harshness. With no distortion and an accurate and stable balance between the two drivers, the soundstage is broad and immersive.
Comparable to the popular line of Neumann monitors, these headphones provide a soundscape that is both inviting and accurate for studio work and casual listening.
Neumann NDH 30: Verdict

The Neumann NDH 30 is an expensive pair of headphones (around US$500), and that’s down to its premium materials and precision engineering.
While cheaper open-backed headphones are available, none can match the level of quality offered. We can gripe about the headphone jack and the fact that it comes with a straight non-coiled cable; but if precision audio is what you’re after then there’s little need to look elsewhere.
