Just in from Huawei: the new MatePad Air has just launched in the UAE, and wants to challenge another very familiar “Air” in the tablet space (you don’t have to be a genius to figure out which).

The MatePad Air is kitted out with an 11.5-inch IPS display, carrying an impressive resolution of 2880 x 1840 pixels. What makes it even sweeter is its refresh rate, which dynamically adjusts anywhere from 30Hz to a breezy 144Hz.

Under its very sleek exterior, the MatePad Air is powered by the Snapdragon 888 chipset, accompanied by the Cortex-X1, Cortex-A78, and Cortex-A55 cores. With the Adreno 660 GPU thrown into the mix, it’s got some serious horsepower. It’s all run by Huawei’s own HarmonyOS 3.1, a nice little curveball away from the Android norm (but one that makes getting access to your favourite Google apps that much harder).

In true Huawei style, the MatePad Air comes with its own set of companions: the Smart Magnetic Keyboard and the second-generation M-pencil. Because a tablet without accessories is like a sandwich without fillings – it still works, but where’s the fun?

Huawei’s MatePad Air houses an 8,300mAh battery, supports 40W fast charging, and comes with an LTE modem. It’s got an 8MP front camera for your video calls and a 13MP rear camera, handy for when your phone camera just doesn’t cut it.

One interesting tidbit about the MatePad Air lies in the new notes app. It boasts self-developed handwriting strokes and real-time voice transcription; which might actually make this a viable boardroom companion.

The MatePad Air is light and slim, tipping the scales at just 508g and measuring 6.4mm thick. It is available in black with a frosted design which easy on the eyes.

If you’re in the UAE and fancy checking out the MatePad Air, it’s on sale now (with all the accessories mentioned above) for AED2,100, or roughly USD571.
