Huawei’s noise-canceling Freebuds 5, are set to hit UAE shelves this week, a fact that will no doubt please audiophiles who are after both comfort and sound quality.

The new earbuds ditch the conventional boxy design, opting for a curvier, open-fit style without rubber tips – an ergonomic choice that supposedly evenly distributes weight around the ear (for a more stable and snug fit).

The Freebuds 5 also boasts IP54 water resistance – perfect for surviving a sweaty gym session, though perhaps not ideal for a swim.

Open-fit earbuds let users stay aware of their surroundings; handy for running outdoors or during daily commutes (no more missing your stop). However, it’s rare for open-fit buds to also rock active noise cancellation (ANC), which sets them apart from competitors like Apple’s AirPods.

With triple microphones for noise cancellation, the Freebuds 5 further use this tech to enhance voice calls, too. Huawei claims a 50% increase in low-frequency sensitivity compared to the Apple AirPods 3rd Gen, and a companion app allows users to fine-tune their music preferences to their liking.

The earbuds come with an oval case, charging via USB-C or wirelessly, and providing on-the-go power. They deliver five hours of playback (reduced to 3.5 hours with ANC enabled), while the case extends battery life up to 30 hours for regular use or 20 hours with noise cancellation.

Available in silver frost and ceramic white, the Freebuds 5 are priced at AED 600 and can be found at good gadget store starting April 28, 2023.
