Last month saw Honor unveil an all-new tablet; the 12-inch Pad 8.

As per usual, it aims to back high-end specs in a budget-friendly package (and a sexy one at that).

But Android tablets have long faired badly against their Apple compatriots; does the Honor Pad 8 come out on top?

Honor Pad 8: Design

Honor loves to offer a variety of color options for its smartphones but the Honor Pad 8 only comes in one blueish hue. The matte finish is slippery and picks up fingerprints easily.

The Honor Pad 8’s corners are perfectly rounded. The power button and volume knob are located on one long edge. The USB-C charger cable, two speaker grilles and the power button are located on one edge. Two more are found on the opposite side.

It’s a pretty standard design; but what tablets these days aren’t?

It measures 11.97 inches in length from corner to corner. The panel’s IPS panel measures 2,000 by 1,200 pixels, which means video looks sharp and the text is clear.

Honor Pad 8: Power

The Honor Pad 8 runs Android 12 with Honor Magic UI 6.1. You get 128GB and 258GB under the hood but won’t be able to expand your storage with a MicroSD card. Which means the 128GB a tad disappointing (especially if you horde digital media).

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 chipset and 4GB RAM perform well under most conditions. It flips through multitasked apps and windows with ease, and the battery is good too; lasting around 16 hours of decent use.

Honor Pad 8: X Factor

The Honor Pad 8 was designed for standard video calling, gaming, and media consumption. Handy then, that it comes with a total of eight speakers. Sound quality is excellent, so watching films and listening to music is excellent.

Video calls can be made using the front-facing 5MP camera. Honor also offers a rear 5MP camera, but let’s be honest – who is using a tablet to take photos these days?

Honor Pad 8: Verdict

The Honor Pad 8 is a solid Android tablet. It handles the basics, and handles them well (no more, no less). Most importantly, it won’t break the bank; you can pick one up for just US$325 – which will be its most attractive feature.
