By now, we can all agree that electric vehicles (EVs) are the future of cars. Move aside Tesla, because every major car company in the world has since laid out some form of EV or (at very least) hybrid future strategy. So it would make sense to see this direction spill over into other modes of transport – notably, electric yachts and boats.

Up until now, maritime electromobility has tended to be associated with smaller, slower vessels with limited ranges – with the larger and faster boat segment generally dominated by combustion engines. Well, THE ICON may well change all that.

Unveiled at the Abu Dhabi International Boat Show, THE ICON is a fully electric battery-powered yacht designed by Designworks in development with TYDE.

But this is no dingy. The yacht is 13.15 metres long and has a top speed of 30 knots, and thanks to its design using foiling technology – saves up to 80 percent more energy than traditional yachts. This innovation not only conserves energy but also enhances ride comfort and speed.

Two 100 kW electric motors offers a nearly silent and vibration-free cruise. Additionally, the sound features aboard the yacht was designed by multi-award winning composer – Hans Zimmer.

THE ICON will be represented by The Silent Power in the GCC and will only be offered to select clientele.
