To answer the question in the headline, you’d be right in thinking that both Lewis Hamilton and retired racer Nico Rosberg are both former F1 World Champions. In fact, they have also both been Formula One champs while driving for Mercedes – but superstar DJ Carl Cox has not. Well, not yet at least.

Today it was announced that Carl Cox will be joining an elite set of owners of Extreme E teams as Owner and Team Principal of Carl Cox Racing.

Extreme E is an FIA-sanctioned international off-road racing series that uses spec silhouette electric SUVs to race in remote parts of the world, such as the Saudi Arabian desert or the Arctic.

The acclaimed DJ joins other owners including the aforementioned Hamilton and Rosberg, as well as other racing icons Jenson Button and Carlos Sainz Snr. for the upcoming racing season of Extreme E.

The eponymous team marks Cox’s first venture into electric racing, however he is no stranger to the world of motorsport having launched Carl Cox Motorsport officially in 2013 as a multi discipline outlet for vehicles with two, three and four wheels.

“Racing, like music, is in my blood and I’m going to bring my passion and energy into this series and build something special,” said Cox in a statement. “Participating in electric racing is new to me but I’m a fast learner and will bring my hard earned know how and experience into the mix at Extreme E.”
