There are few, if any, cinematic cars as legendary as the Aston Martin DB5 (perhaps the Batmobile, but we have yet to find a parking space that would fit it). And if you have the wallet for it you can buy one, or two, via Sotheby’s upcoming online auction held specially to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Casino Royale, the first book to feature the iconic James Bond.
The Aston Martin DB5 made its silver screen debut in 1966’s Goldfinger with Sean Connery behind the wheel, and has continued to dazzle audiences all the way down to Pierce Brosnan’s and Daniel Craig’s respective takes on 007. Fittingly, both cars will be on display at Sotheby’s at Bond Street in London until September 20. The 1964 classic boasts a number of upgrades to its classic upholstery, including air conditioning and LED headlamps (although you’re out of luck with the machine gun turrets).
The 1987 Aston Martin V8 Volante shows only 19,020 miles, and was previously owned by legendary Bond producer, Albert ‘Cubby’ Broccoli, which remained in his ownership until his death in 1996. The paperwork supporting his original proof of purchase is included.
The estimated price is between AED2.8 million and AED2.5 million for the DB5, and AED550,000 for the Volante. The online auction is currently live running from September 8 at 15:00 BST to the 22nd.
So, put on some Shirley Bassey, slip into an Anthony Sinclair suit and you can expect Miss MoneyPenny to call you soon enough.
