When I’m stuck in traffic on Dubai’s Sheikh Zayed Road, an all-the-more-common experience as of late, looking at the cars all around me, I find myself asking one question again and again: Are Range Rovers the most popular cars in the Middle East, or do I just feel that way because they always manage to catch your eye?

As I finally get behind the wheel of one—the Range Rover Velar R-Dynamic HSE 2023, to be precise—I can say that the ‘avant garde’ design is just as seductive from the inside as it is from the out. I immediately see the appeal, especially with non-car connoisseurs. After all, you don’t need to know much about cars to see the beauty in the design, to feel its refined nature, or to see why this is particularly popular at this moment.

After all, in the accessible luxury space, while there may be better cars, few give you the same feeling. Some competitors, for example, feel like luxury made for those in the 50+ set, stuck in the past in certain design points, whereas everything about the Range Rover signals now, now, now.

While some Range Rovers may not match the power that they seem so suited to, this model certainly does, with a 3.0 litre l6 Supercharged & Turbocharged MHEV, with 340 PS and can hit 0 to 100 in 6.3 seconds. That is what’s most worth pointing out here, the rest you probably already expect, including 14-way memory front seats, a Meridian 3D surround sound system with 17 different speakers, and much, much more.

It’s impossible to ignore Land Rover’s Range Rover line at this stage, and while the Velar might tempt, we’ll point you first here. You’ll likely find it as hard as I did to stop thinking about it.
