The majority of cars lose value over time, but a few special gems can make owners a tonne of money.
A legendary McLaren just sold for a huge amount at auction.
Yep, the McLaren F1 from 1995 sold this week for $28 million.
Only 106 cars were ever built, and prices were originally $1.02 million at the time.
The car, the 25th car built, has only 389km on its odometer, and is the only F1 that was finished in “Creighton Brown” paint with an interior fitted with dark brown and tan leather upholstery.

It comes with the original matching luggage, watch, tool kit, owner’s manual, and service book—all exactly in the condition they came in with the original car, along with even its original tyres.
Some consider the McLaren F1 the greatest car ever built, originally drawn up by F1 designer Gordon Murray to be a very driver-focused car built for the open road.

It was also the first car built for the road to use F1-style tech, build to be aerodynamic and covered in carbon fiber in a way that such cars had not seen before.
It’s powered by a 6.1litre v12 naturally aspirated engine with a 461kW and 600 Nm, paired with a six-speed transmission. It has a top speed of over386km/h, a record at the time. It’s also built as a three-seater with the driver in the middle of two passenger seats on either side.

The car used gold foil as a heat reflecter in the engine bay, with 16 grams of gold in each car. Mr. Bean himself Roan Atkinson crashed his twice before selling it in 2015 for $15 million.
So the big question—is this the most expensive car ever built? Nope, in fact a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO sold for $100 million just a few years ago.
