The supercar delivers more than 1,817-horsepower under the hood

Hennessey – the American tuning company – is known for its souped-up trucks and mustangs; but today it has officially unveiled a production version of its Venom F5 hypercar.

Way back in November 2017, Hennessey unveiled the plans for the Venom F5 – and said that it would be the fastest car in the world with speeds upwards of 500kph.

The current world record holder is the Bugatti Chiron (with a record of 490 kph).*

The Venom F5’s engine is nicknamed ‘Fury’ (which should tell you everything about the team that built it, to be honest) and is a twin-turbocharged 6.6-litre V8 that produces 1,817-horsepower. It will go from zero to 100kph in less than three seconds, and a staggering zero to 200kph in just 4.7 seconds.

The Venom team say that the car’s top speed is 500kph, and that the speed will be verified transparently and independently.

All of this power is down to two things: that incredibly powerful engine and an incredibly light body – just shy of 1,400kg. That is down to a bespoke carbon fiber chassis, body panels, and an attention to detail.

Hennessey says the inspiration for the car was fighter jets.

Only 24 Hennessey Venom F5s will be built, with vehicles hitting the roads late next year. The cost for all this speed and power? A cool US$2.1 million.

*This is slightly disputed, as technically the SSC Tuatara recorded a 532kph run which would make it the fastest car in the world. However, the viewers of the world record attempt noticed something fishy in the video, prompting the SSC team to withdraw the claim.
